Module 2: Ways to Help in the Classroom

Introduction to TEACCH Video from Autism Speaks

Here are some principles of instruction and classroom design using a TEACCH approach.

  • Students with autism have a strength for learning information visually (i.e., they are visual learners). Auditory processing is more difficult.
  • The physical environment of the classroom is structured to be organized, clearly communicate expectations, and reduce distractions.
  • Visual supports are used to make tasks clear and the daily schedule predictable and comprehendible.

Here are some examples of tasks I designed using TEACCH ideas.
